- Bull Riding

The winner is determined by a short time, such as a hundredth of a second measured with an electronic eye timer. Although riders may touch a barrel, they will receive a five-second penalty if they knock one over.
- Steer Wrestling
During this event, cowboys compete against the clock and must demonstrate strength and coordination. Steer wrestlers wait behind a rope barrier on horseback. They are given a 12-ft head start when the steer is released upon showing a nod. He chases the steer with his horse, then drops to the ground and grabs its horns, fighting to control it. He needs to roll the steer on the ground, and it’s must be on its feet. The time is recorded as soon as the animal is on its side with all legs extended. The steer must be kept running straight with the help of an additional horse, ridden by a hazer.
- Bareback
Riders hold on to leather handholds as they extend their feet forward, holding onto riggings, which are pads wrapped around the bucking horse’s girth. In a spurring motion, the rider pulls his feet back toward the rigging. A higher spur means a higher score. Cowboys’ arms are heavily stressed as they absorb most of the horse’s power, and they are required to hold on for at least 8 seconds.
- Tie-Down Roping
Tie-Down Roping is where a cowboy with his partner must rope and tie an animal. It’s one of the oldest ranching tasks that involve speed, skill, and finesse. On horseback, the cowboy waits behind a rope barrier. He then gets 10 feet of a head start when a nod is given to release the calf. To rope the calf, the cowboy must dismount from his horse, reach it on the run, turn it on its side, and tie three of the animal’s legs. A cowboy’s hands are thrown in the air when the time is called, and the calf must be released immediately.
